Step 5: the cinnabar seal. A place held.
Your journey so far
You can hold a place before finishing the steps, but a deposit stands on much firmer ground with the journey done.
Holding & refund terms
Being written. The deposit amount and refund terms will be published right here, together, before this page takes a cent. Until then nothing is held. We don't pretend there's a queue.
When you sign a building contract, Victorian law caps the contract deposit: at most 5% where the contract price is $20,000 or more (section 11, Domestic Building Contracts Act 1995). A builder taking more than that is breaking the law.
The hold on this page is a refundable amount placed BEFORE any building contract exists. It is not the contract deposit. How it relates to that contract will be spelled out in the terms, before this page takes a cent.
